I don't talk much on the blog about being a foster parent (because we're asked to keep information about the kids to a minimum--particularly on the internet), but today I have to post.
Let me begin by saying that Lu Lu (that's my nickname/codename) is okay.
Let me end by saying that we will NEVER SIT IN ANOTHER METAL CHAIR OR WALK THROUGH A REVOLVING GLASS DOOR EVER AGAIN!
And I'm so not kidding.
Let me explain:
Last night Dave took the kids to scouts with him. They were meeting in the church building/cultural hall/gym and playing broom hockey. He had our youngest two and Lu Lu and her brother.
Apparently everyone at scouts was getting a chair to sit in. A metal chair. A stiff metal chair.
And somehow in the struggle to get hers, Lu Lu caught her finger in one of them!
From that point on, it's a blur.
There was pinching, pulling, blood, running, racing, crying.
Her finger was cut.
The cut was serious.
Serious enough to go to instacare.
Serious enough that everyone had to hop in the car sans shoes (RUN, RUN, RUN!).
But apparently too serious for an InstaCare.
So they sent us to the children's hospital up the hill (40 min. away--for real).
Since I was meeting Dave/kids at the hospital (I'd been teaching a class), I pulled into the hospital valet, fully expecting Dave to already be there.
But, he got a little turned around and winded up arriving just behind me. And being that I had already given my keys to the valet, I decided I should run to his car, grab Lu Lu and head for the ER.
So I raced over to his car, unbuckled Lu Lu, and grabbed her like a baton in a relay race.
This was my leg of the race, and I was going to make up for lost time, dangit.
That is, until I ran head-first into the glass revolving door WITH LU LU in my arms!
We literally bounced off the glass door . . . making the security guards laugh harder than a night at the Improv. (Please tell me there's a camera on that door. I want to see the replay.)
I thought Lu Lu was going to start screaming, but once we got up (yes, up), she just started laughing so hard.
And I did, too.
From that point on, there was less laughing and more crying, but Lu Lu did make it through (thanks to Dave, the ER, and a lot of prayers--they were done at 3am!).
Life is just crazy sometimes. Good, but crazy, I say!
We're so thankful Lu Lu's okay. Still in pain (6 stitches and a chipped bone will do that), but good (She kept her finger and she's still smiling.).
So, my advice--stay away from folding metal chairs AND revolving glass doors.
Trust me.
(And before I forget, HAPPY BIRTHDAY SETH K!)
