This past week, a really kind and beautiful grandma in our congregation passed away. She really was remarkable. The kind of person you hope to be like. The kind of woman that other women love. A true friend. A beautiful mother. Insanely creative. Generous. . . and more.
Well, as we were getting ready for the funeral today, Paige kept asking me "are we going to a real life funeral?"
And, I just kept replying, "yes, a real funeral."
I was thinking she was curious about death. Maybe this would be an opportunity for us to talk more about it.
That's what I was thinking.
Then, when we pulled into the church parking lot she said, "This is the funeral? Where? Inside?"
I'm still thinking . . . oh, she has questions about death.
But as we took our seats in the chapel, I realized what poor Paigey was thinking.
She was thinking, "CARNIVAL," not "FUNERAL!"
Know how I know?
As we were sitting there she said, "Where are all of the games? Mom, this isn't a real live funeral at all. There has to be games."
I almost died laughing. Here I was thinking she was curious about life and death, and she just wanted to play some games at the funeral!
I bet more kids would go to funerals if there were games.
